Call for Oz Convention photos and ephemera
2011 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the first Oz Club convention, held at Ozcot Lodge in Bass Lake, Indiana. To celebrate, the Baum Bugle will publish a special feature on Oz Convention Memories, with photos, short reminiscences, and ephemera.
Do you have interesting photos or paper keepsakes from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, or 2000s? We are hoping to print samples from each of the decades and also represent the various national and regional conventions, if possible. Especially welcome are photos (both color and B&W welcome!) of particularly iconic images or quintessential activities of the conventions: room decorations, Oz cookies and refreshments, auctioneers and bidders, presenters giving talks, Oz costumes, people taking Oz quizzes, and socializing in lobbies or hozpitality rooms. While we will be able to print in the Bugle feature only a small sampling of the photos received, we are also working on a way to share the larger collection with Oz Club members.
If willing to contribute, please send scans (300-dpi resolution, minimum) of images or ephemera to me at [email protected]. It is also possible for me to scan and promptly return items to you if you are willing to mail them, but please contact me by e-mail first so we can make arrangements. Also, I’ll be attending both the Winkie Convention in July and the Banner Elk convention in August (and plan to bring a scanner), but we need to finalize this Bugle feature very soon after that meeting. Do include any information (people, year, convention) you recall about the photos, too.
I am working on a small Oz Convention keepsake for everyone who contributes a photo–whether we ultimately use them in the Bugle feature or not. So please do consider sharing your memories of this important aspect of Oz Club history with others in our club.
