An Oz Club national convention will be held on the grounds of the old Land of Oz theme park in Banner Elk, North Carolina in 2011. We'll follow the Yellow Brick Road and meet people involved with the park during it's heyday. Additional programing -- tentatively planned to center on some of the fascinating ways fans express their devotion to Oz -- will be offered at one of the local hotels to make it a full weekend event. Hello, my name is Lisa. I, however would like to be known as Sera Alexia. I am an Oz Collector and have an extensive collection to say the least. I enjoy the Oz books by Baum as they are from my favorite author. I adore the 1939 movie and am fascinated with anything that has to do with Oz. I love to write and have written Oz stories. 2009 Kansas IWOC Convention Update

Things are going great here! Just a few highlights of what's happened so far, and we're not even halfway through the weekend!

A wonderful wine and cheese party took place Thursday evening at the Emerald City Market while club members and guest speakers got to catch up with each other since the last convention they attended.

Jane Albright and several club members put together a beautiful Friday night dinner reception complete with giant glass Glinda globes, Wicked...

Hi, I ordered a map set and a sustaining membership back on the 17th of September got the order confirmation but no shipping confirmation as of yet. I'm really looking forward to getting the map set to help me in my novel and certainly hope it gets here this month...

Anyway just wondering how long it usually takes, I know a fan run club can take a bit more time to get some things done, so I'm not angry or anything.

I finally got my BUGLE today and I must say I was rather in shock that THE BAUM BUGLE (of all journals!) would give such a laudatory and uncritical review to such a controversial work as Evan Schwartz' FINDING OZ.

This is a book from a major publisher that is sure to be as controversial as the "Parable on Populism." Not only does the BUGLE not address or question Schwartz' highly original and unsubstantiated speculation (sadly often stated as fact), but the BUGLE...

Naming the IWOC "National" convention

In a recent thread, David Maxine proposed using the Ozmopolitan name for the National Convention. The early Ozmopolitan conventions did originally draw people from around the country, at least until the '90s when the board of directors stopped meeting there every year. But since the Ozmopolitan as it was -- and hopefully will again be -- was dear to many of us, I'd rather reserve that title for the possibility of Midwestern members reviving the regional Ozmopolitan...

This note just in from a friend in Wamego. Considering I usually see her in a Glinda costume, I'm inclined to trust her. Grins. I heard yesterday that hotels are filling up, so if you're planning to attend the IWOC National Convention in Kansas, don't put off making reservations. Jane
