New Oz Map!

In order to get a good quality map for my Adventures in Oz RPG, I've had to commission one. I've posted an internet-resolution image on my blog, but I do have a hi-res copy for the book.

My son did something very nice for me today. He downloaded onto my cel phone the theme music for the Captain Kangaroo show, which now plays every time I get a call. This makes me extremely happy as anyone who has read my interview in the Wizards Wireless forum of The Daily Ozmapolitan will know.

This got me to thinkin' (always a scary thought) about how I came to accept Oz as a real place.

You know, the older I get, the less and less I appreciate MGM's "The Wizard of Oz".

WOZ is like, the iconic IWOC image. But why? It seems to me we should disown it. If you will, think of the argument of WOZ/Return to Oz as Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Dammed film versions. It's almost exactly like that. When people think of Interview with the Vampire, they think the Tom Cruise movie, which was poorly done and a horrible adaptation of...

See Magazine is one of two art/young/alternative life, free weekly papers in my city... their cover for this week was obviously oz-inspired... the article it relates to is interveiwing two wiccans to dispell myths about them... and find out what they're up to for Halloween etc.

I know Disney did a couple read along, Oz books... so I was wondering if "The Rainbow Road to Oz" was ever used on any of them, I really like the song and would love to have a record in my collection, instead of just playing the youtube clip over and over.

Okay, I want to know, who put me on the mailing list for all these 70th Anniversary of the MGM movie announcements? (Probably me by putting my e-mail address on my blog...)

Anyways, I got this today. Using a photo of yourself, your face can replace Ray Bolger's in a couple clips from "If I Only Had A Brain." The effect is... disturbing. It's you, with Ray Bolger's body, in shots with Judy Garland, and your eyes look soulless and unnatural.

Idea for "Sky Pirates over Oz"

Sherwood Smith's 3rd 'Snow Globe of Oz' novel, "Sky Pirates over Oz" was supposed to be published by Harpercollins, and illustrated by William Stout.

But now the "boss" of Harper Collins has sadly passed away and now it's harder for the book to be published, right?

(forgive me if the above info is incorrect, in wholr or in part, this isn't exactly a commonly discussed subject, so precise information can be easily mistaken)

I've been home sick today, and spent the time updating and putting up my website's Halloween page. Go ahead, take a look, I think a lot of Oz fans will be pleasantly surprised (or, depending on your point of view, vaguely disturbed) by some of the items there. The main focus is costumes, and there are a few new ones. I also have some seasonal Oz and Ozzy books and videos in there, including Dover's new edition of The Pearl and the Pumpkin...
