Map inconsistencies

My girlfriend has begun reading the Oz books and reminded me of a map inconsistency that I noticed while reading Ozma of Oz years ago. When they travel from Ev to Oz, they enter Oz through Munchkin Country... On the map in my Oz Chronicles book, Ev is next to Winkie Country, not Munchkin Country. I had assumed that this was a problem related to the East-West issues with the maps; but the maps I have seen with the Oz Countries correctly oriented still have Ev across the Deadly Desert from...

English translation of "The Wizard of the Emerad City"

I was wondering if an English translation of Alexander Volkov's "The Wizard of the Emerald City" exists and where I might be able to get a copy of it if it does. Does anyone know if any of the sequels were translated into English? Also, if you have read the books, in English or Russian, what did you think?

This just accured to me... how is he alive? Scrapps was brought to life with Dr. Pipts powder as was Jack Pumpkinhead... the Scarecrow? Now I know it's just an oversight by Baum but I thought I'd put it out there

Polychrome's Magic

I know that Polychrome is a fairy and the rainbow's daughter, and I know that she uses magic throughout her appearances in the Oz books. Can anyone help me to remember any specific instances where she used magic and what she did with her magic? I appreciate any help you can give me, it's been awhile since I have read all of the books and really don't have the time to do so now. Thanks!

I don't know if anybody knows about these two books that I just found. I don't know if these two books have been discussed before since I haven't been on this site in forever.

But I went to Borders yesterday and saw The Real Wizard Of Oz: The Life And Times Of L. Frank Baum and the graphic novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz graphic novel. Seeing as they were Oz books I had to buy both. I read The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz graphic novel in a day and liked it. The art style...

King of the Kalidahs?

While re-reading a portion of " The Magic of Oz" something caught my eye. When the Kalidah Cap' Bill caught gets free he says mentions a Kalidah King (he says something about him having some magic of his own, that could possibly be used to fill in the holes left in the Kalidah by Cap' Bill's stake. Just who (or what) is the Kalidah King. If he is a Kalidah it would mean that, in Oz, the ability to work magic is not limited to humans. If he isn't a Kalidah then who...

Just curious if anyone knows which of the Oz books Ruth Plumly Thompson wrote were her personal favorites? I recall reading that L. Frank Baum thought "The Scarecrow of Oz" was his favorite but I don't think I've seen any similar information on RPT.

There is little description of their appearance beside their character by Baum in the book (as is his WWW), and in the few films they have been depicted as (a) tall, hairy, fat or skinny or masculine creatures horns and claws and fangs (1985 Rankin/Bass Strop-Motion) (b) Rocky Troll/Ogre-like creatures (2000 Universal DtV, though sometimes they look rubbery) and in the Anime . . . ? Uh . . . . hm.

When I went to Epping earlier this week I saw an edition of this story illustrated...

Alright. So, for the Wiz, I'm trying to get the color schemes for each country right. I know Munchkins is blue, Winkie is yellow, Quadling is red, Gilkin is purple. But what country is each character (Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion) from?

Also, where is the Wicked Witch of the West's castle?

What IS the difference between The Deadly Desert, The Impassable Desert, The Great Sandy Waste and The Shifting Sands?
-I know that if anyone touches any of these deserts that they will disintegrate immediately.....but why the different names for each side of the desert? Is there any reason at all? Sharon

Doesn't that sound like there is some ruler of the Quadlings besides Glinda? You can't even theorize that the King of the Quadlings is a figurehead while Glinda does the actual ruling, both are specifcally...

Captain Fyter, soldier for whom?

Hi all
I was idly thinking a while back and a though ocuured to me, Just whose soldier was Captain Fyter back when he was a meat person. Given where he was found, he (like Nick Chopper) was presumably a native Munchkin so the logical guess is that he was one of the Witch of the East's soldiers, but his general nobility and , for lack of a better term, "goodenss" seem to be at odds with this. Even is you imagine that his entry into the WWE's forces was not...

The Road To Oz Golden Book

I was at Wal-Mart today and I was walking up and down the kid area and saw The Road To Oz Golden Book in with the books. It was only $2.50. So I bought it.

I'm sure everybody on here remembers the Golden Books. I do and I'm only 17.

This copy of The Road To Oz isn't like the good old Golden Books I used to know...oh well.

The Road To Oz is an adapation but its a really good one at that. Sure they had to cut out a couple of things but it works.
